Bishop's Charge to Synod 2011 |
As Church, we seek the Kingdom of God through a balanced approach to the mission and ministry of God’s Church. We seek to preach the good news of the Gospel in word and deed. We seek to baptise and nurture believers. We seek to offer loving service to those in need. We seek to work against unjust structures in our world. Our Diocese has long had a tradition of maintaining a focus on social action, as well as our ministry to our congregations. From the inception of the Diocese in 1855 we have had intervention in education, and later in the health needs of our people. Latterly, our social action has been consolidated and formalised under the umbrella of a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) – the Anglican Mission Development Ministries (AMDM). |

Bishop's Charge to Synod 2010 |
As Church, we seek the Kingdom of God, and pray that God’s Kingdom may be manifest in our lives and in our land. We follow a God of mercy and justice. Bishop's Charge to Synod 2009 |
As Church, we worship the one God as revealed to us in the person of the man Jesus. Jesus said he came to point us to the Father. Jesus often told us of the Kingdom – God’s Kingdom – where the will of God is done. When we are able to submit our wills to God, we are in turn empowered by God to fulfil His will here on earth. We have much to be thankful to God for. At this Synod we will particularly reflect on the past year – 2008 – as we review our life as God’s Church in this part of His vineyard, and hold account for our stewardship of God’s creation and the gifts He has given to us. |

Bishop's Charge to Synod 2003 |
Synod is a time of accounting for the stewardship entrusted in the various institutions and officers of the Diocese. Let us be positive and constructive in our comments and discussions. Let us cultivate the art of “gracious disagreement”. As Church, we have a responsibility to encourage and build each other up. If there is need for criticism, this must be done in love, constructively and for the good of the whole. It will mean listening – active and empathetic listening. The type of listening whereby we genuinely try to understand the position of the other – that is, to enter into their situation, and appreciate that situation. |
